Q&A: What does writing in all capital letters suggest about personality according to graphology?

Question by Howard D: What does writing in all capital letters suggest about personality according to graphology?
Just found graphology interesting, not saying that I believe it. I keep seeing handwriting experts on TV emphasizing how certain criminals write in all capitals.

What does writing in all capitals typically suggest to an analyst? Vanity? Ego? Need for attention?

Just curious!

On here, writing in capitals is, for me at least, a substitute for italics, which I would use if I could to emphasize a word or thought. Since I can’t (at least I have not yet found a way!), I use all caps to emphasize an idea.

THANK YOU for bringing up the topic, so I could comment on it…and hey, Yahoo!m when are you going to make it possible for us to use italics, underlining, etc.? IT’S OVER DUE!

YOU CALLIN’ ME CRAZY? ;)

It depends on the person’s educational background and current job occupation. Old timer architects and mechanical drafters are trained to write in all caps and that is what they become used to. I’ve met more than one visual artist who prefer to write in all caps, however. The US Post Office prefers people to write out addresses on envelopes in all caps for ease of reading. In my case, when I write in all caps, it’s because I know from comparison that my all caps handwriting is more legible (easier to read) than my non caps handwriting. So, that could suggest that other all caps handwriters just want to be easily understood. Another suggestion I remember reading is that all caps handwriting hides what a person is feeling and thinking. It is a way of protecting their private personality. I hope this helps. I really recommend the book, “Handwriting Analysis for Dummies” or maybe it’s called “Graphology for Dummies.” I don’t know that I agree with everything she wrote, but it was very interesting to look through.
