What is the difference between the fiction writing class and?

Question by crossing_the_rubicon: What is the difference between the fiction writing class and?
the advanced fiction writing class, in college?

I always wanted to write a book and so I am thinking of getting a creative writing minor. But I have to take a creative writing class in either fiction, non fiction or poetry and an advanced creative class in 2 of the following: fiction, non fiction or poetry. I want to take the fiction writing classes, and what would the difference be between the first one and the advanced one? Is it just more reading, more writing, do they expect better writing? How does one get graded? By effort or talent?

Depends on the college.
In general, though, advanced writing classes require a lot more writing. You may be asked to complete a project in a normal fiction class that is, say, 20-30 pages; advanced will be more than 20 for sure. It may be one major work or a couple longer pieces. A teacher for that class will expect higher quality writing from you than they might in the normal level class.

i took intro to creative writing this past semester and loved it. It was reading and writing intensive. You read to get inspired and see examples of how other authors completed similar goals.
for example we had a book of short stories to read and the stories assigned had to deal with sin the same as the story we had to write for our project. from what i understand advanced fiction was more of the same except more specific topics i would assume.

email your professor before sigining up to see what the class is about they’ll be more than happy to help
